Clydesdale
Endangered Species Status: Watch
Used for promotional hitches, draft
The breed was first imported to America in the 1840s, because of their size and attractiveness, they were popular for promotional hitches. The breed only survived in North America due to the fact that Anheuser Busch company committed to the breeding of Clydesdale horses in the 1950s & 1960s. The market of the 1800s favored a more compact animal, but in recent years, has switched to a taller horse to be used in the hitches. The North American population of Clydesdale horses has steadily increased and is currently at an all-time high. The global population is estimated around 5,000 horses.

I am surprised to see Clydesdale horses on the endangered breed list. It is a good thing Anheuser Busch is still using them. Good choice!
